“Tinubu’s Era of Opulence: Reps Get N1 Billion, Senators N2 Billion for Constituency Projects – Ayodele Asalu Alleges”

A former aspirant for the House of Representatives, Ayodele Asalu, has made explosive claims about the financial windfall allegedly enjoyed by lawmakers since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office and scrapped the controversial fuel subsidy.

According to Asalu, the budgetary allocation for constituency projects has seen an unprecedented hike under Tinubu’s administration. He asserted that no member of the House of Representatives currently receives less than N1 billion, a dramatic increase from the N200 million previously allocated.

“The era of N200 million is gone. Now, each member of the House of Representatives is getting nothing less than N1 billion for constituency projects,” Asalu revealed, raising eyebrows across political and civil society circles.

Even more staggering, Asalu alleged that no Senator receives less than N2 billion for similar projects, a claim that, if true, would represent one of the most significant jumps in legislative spending in Nigeria’s democratic history.

The revelation has sparked concerns over transparency, equity, and the actual impact of these inflated constituency project allocations on the lives of ordinary Nigerians grappling with harsh economic realities, rising inflation, and the ripple effects of subsidy removal.

Analysts are calling for accountability mechanisms to ensure that these funds are judiciously used to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other critical sectors within constituencies — rather than lining the pockets of political elites.

Asalu’s bombshell comes at a time when public scrutiny of lawmakers’ earnings and government expenditure is at an all-time high, with Nigerians demanding more transparency and a people-centered approach to governance.
