In a bold and decisive move to uphold its moral and safety standards, the management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of two privately operated female hostels—Al-Ansar Indabo hostels—located at UDB Road and Hotoro in the Kano metropolis.
The decision follows damning reports of gross misconduct, safety breaches, and activities considered antithetical to the university’s values. The announcement was made by the university’s Vice President of Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, through an official statement on behalf of the management.
> “I am directed by the management to inform our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students’ hostels,” the statement read.
According to Dr. Garba, a comprehensive review and inspection uncovered multiple infractions, including:
Immoral behavior and disregard for the university’s code of conduct,
Unauthorized male presence and suspected cohabitation with non-students,
Student violence and altercations,
Unregulated night movements, and
Unhygienic living conditions due to unreliable water and electricity supply.
“These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” Dr. Garba emphasized, noting that MAAUN remains uncompromising in its duty to foster a disciplined, secure, and morally upright academic environment.
Affected students have been instructed to vacate the premises immediately after the conclusion of the current semester’s examinations. The university has issued a stern warning that any continued stay in the facilities would be at the students’ own risk, absolving the institution of any liability thereafter.
To ensure a smooth transition, MAAUN disclosed that it is working hand-in-hand with security agencies to enforce the directive and maintain order during the relocation process. Furthermore, parents and students have been encouraged to reach out to the Office of the Vice President of Campus Life for guidance on university-approved accommodation options.
