In a passionate appeal that underscores the significance of indigenous healing systems, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association in Girei Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Malami, has called on the state government to establish Traditional Health Care Centres across the state.
Dr. Malami made the call during his official swearing-in ceremony held at the palace of the District Head of Girei, in a colourful event that drew a mammoth crowd of traditional healers, community members, and well-wishers.
The newly sworn-in Chairman emphasized the importance of integrating traditional healthcare practices into the mainstream health system to bolster healthcare delivery in rural communities. He urged Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration to give traditional medicine the recognition and institutional support it deserves.
“Traditional medicine remains the backbone of healthcare in many communities. Establishing dedicated centres will not only preserve our rich heritage but also complement the efforts of orthodox medical practice in delivering affordable and accessible healthcare,” Dr. Malami said.
He further urged his colleagues to discharge their duties within their areas of specialization, emphasizing teamwork, ethical practice, and unity as the bedrock for their collective success.
Dr. Malami also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Ubandoma Adamawa for generously hosting the swearing-in ceremony at his palace, describing the gesture as a symbol of respect and encouragement for the association.
In a goodwill message, the Adamawa State Chairman of the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, Alhaji Garba Yaro, advised the newly inaugurated executive to lead with integrity and the fear of God, reminding them that “leadership is a divine responsibility and no leader is better than the people they serve.”

Alhaji Yaro also appealed to the new leadership to support the administration of Governor Fintiri in its mission to promote health and development across the state.
“I am overwhelmed by the turnout today. This is a testament to the love and support the people have for traditional medicine. I pray for continued peace and unity in Adamawa State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
Also speaking at the occasion, the State Vice Chairman of the Association, Malam Sulaiman Saidu Damisa, urged all members to operate in strict compliance with the association’s constitution. He warned that any member found violating the rules and regulations would face the full weight of the law.
Malam Sulaiman concluded with a prayer for the prosperity of the union and the well-being of the people of Adamawa State, calling on all practitioners to serve with dedication and commitment.
