In a shocking and tragic turn of events, a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, has allegedly butchered his own father, Salisu Abubakar, in cold blood with a machete in the Bakin Kasuwa Quarters of Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
The brutal attack reportedly occurred around 10 a.m., sending shockwaves through the quiet community as neighbors watched in horror. According to the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam, the young man viciously attacked his father with a machete, inflicting deep wounds to his shoulder, neck, and chest.
“The victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for urgent medical attention, but sadly, he was confirmed dead on arrival by the attending physician,” DSP Adam told journalists during a press briefing in Dutse on Monday.
Following the grisly incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Sara, along with a patrol team, swiftly responded to the distress call and secured the scene. The weapon used in the attack—a blood-stained machete—was recovered from the suspect.
“The suspect, Muhammad Salisu, was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody,” Adam confirmed, adding that the remains of the deceased had been released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP AT Abdullahi, has since ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for a thorough and discreet investigation. He vowed that justice will not be delayed or denied in this “barbaric and senseless act.”
“The full weight of the law will be brought down on the suspect once investigations are concluded. The command is committed to ensuring justice for the deceased and his family,” the Commissioner stated.
Meanwhile, the motive behind the horrifying attack remains a mystery. The police have yet to uncover what triggered the young man to allegedly carry out such a heinous crime against his own father.
DSP Adam appealed to members of the public who may have vital information related to the case to come forward, assuring that the investigation will be transparent and exhaustive.
