Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has fired a searing warning at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, cautioning that the alleged weaponisation of federal agencies to crush opposition voices could hasten the downfall of his administration.
Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, shortly after emerging as a national delegate for the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congress, Lamido did not mince words as he accused Tinubu’s government of descending into dangerous authoritarianism.
“The use of government institutions as instruments of political persecution will not only stain the image of the presidency but will inevitably trigger its collapse,” Lamido declared emphatically.
He described the current political climate as “chillingly reminiscent of authoritarian regimes,” warning that the administration’s unchecked misuse of power would eventually cause it to implode.
Lamido specifically accused President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of systematically “weaponising” federal agencies to intimidate, weaken, and ultimately neutralize political rivals in a desperate bid to secure victory ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are witnessing the disturbing evolution of a system where agencies meant to uphold justice and serve the people are now being unleashed to silence dissent and entrench the status quo,” he stated.
The former governor urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and resist the creeping threat to democracy, warning that history has never been kind to leaders who attempt to subjugate the will of the people.
“No matter how much you suppress dissent, no matter how heavy the hand of intimidation, the truth has a way of breaking through,” Lamido asserted.
“In the end, the resilience of the people will triumph, and history will judge harshly those who thought they could muzzle a nation’s soul.”
Lamido’s sharp critique adds to the growing concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy under Tinubu’s watch, as political tensions continue to simmer across the country.
