Ferocious Windstorm Ravages Ganye: Homes Destroyed, Residents Plead for Government Intervention

A violent windstorm tore through Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Friday, April 25, 2025, leaving widespread destruction in its wake and rendering many families homeless.

What initially appeared to be the start of a soothing rainfall quickly escalated into a full-blown disaster as powerful winds swept across the area, tearing rooftops, flattening structures, and uprooting trees. The sudden onslaught, which began in the early evening, struck with such force that several public and private properties suffered severe damage.

Among the worst-hit facilities were the Magistrate Court Hall and the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the Ganye General Hospital. Residential buildings across multiple communities were not spared either, with countless families now left without shelter.

Eyewitnesses described the storm as “terrifying and unprecedented,” noting that some residents narrowly escaped with their lives as walls crumbled and rooftops were flung into the air.

Community leaders and affected families are now appealing to both the state and federal governments for urgent assistance. “Many of us have nowhere to sleep. Our homes are gone, and our children are exposed to the elements,” a distraught resident lamented.

Local authorities have begun preliminary assessments, but residents say immediate action is crucial to prevent a humanitarian crisis, especially as many displaced families lack basic necessities like food, clothing, and medical care.

The people of Ganye are counting on the swift intervention of government agencies, disaster relief organizations, especially the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relief organizations to urgently dispatch aid to the devastated families, and also the well-meaning individuals to bring relief and restore hope in the aftermath of the storm’s fury.
