Duruma Village, Kwara State – A deadly new terror group identifying itself as “Mahmuda” has emerged in North Central Nigeria, issuing spine-chilling threats to communities in Kwara State. In an exclusive obtained by SaharaReporters, the group has vowed to unleash a wave of violence on Duruma village and the broader Borgu Kingdom, ordering residents to evacuate immediately or face certain death.
The ominous warning came through a chilling audio message recorded in Hausa, sent via mobile communication channels to terrified locals. The message, delivered by the group’s unnamed leader, accuses the Emir of Duruma and the village’s newly formed vigilante units of provoking conflict, warning that retaliation is imminent.
“This is a message—a final warning—to the Emir of Duruma, his people, and the ignorant vigilantes who are inciting chaos. They are endangering their own lives. What is coming will be worse than they can imagine,” the voice declared menacingly.
The group claims to have lived peacefully in the region for over five years but says recent events have forced them to reconsider their stance.
“Since we arrived in the Borgu Kingdom, we’ve coexisted without violence, never lifted a weapon. But your people behave like animals. You provoke us with ignorance and arrogance,” the speaker claimed.
He further questioned the villagers’ loyalty to the Nigerian government and accused external backers of sponsoring the vigilantes. “What are you getting from this government? What has your sponsor ever given you that’s worth dying for?” he scoffed.
In a brutal ultimatum, the leader ordered all residents unwilling to fight to abandon the village without delay.
“If you’re not ready for battle, pack your belongings and leave. We hear you’re recruiting vigilantes and collecting money for bullets. Anyone who funds or joins this militia is our enemy. We will not spare them,” he warned.
“Stop going to the market. Evacuate not just Duruma, but the entire Borgu Kingdom. If we see you, we will kill you.”
The audio message also contained a stark warning to smugglers and traders in the region.
“You smugglers aiding the security forces, beware. Find other routes or wear your burial clothes when passing through. We’ll kill everyone we encounter,” he threatened.
Just two days before this threat surfaced, the same group reportedly launched a violent assault on Duruma village (Karonji) in the Baruten Local Government Area. The attack, which occurred Friday evening, saw militants storm the village on motorcycles and open fire indiscriminately.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers torched several motorcycles and a vehicle belonging to local vigilantes. The sudden ambush plunged the community into panic, with residents fleeing into surrounding forests and nearby villages.
Security agencies have yet to release an official statement regarding the emergence of the Mahmuda group, but tension is mounting in the region. Many locals now live in fear, with reports of mass exodus already underway from the targeted communities.
Residents are calling on the Kwara State Government and federal security forces to act swiftly before the threat escalates into a full-blown massacre.
As Nigeria grapples with worsening insecurity, the rise of Mahmuda signals yet another disturbing chapter in the country’s fight against terror. The world watches as Duruma and Borgu brace for what may become one of the most brutal insurgencies yet.
