In a chilling incident that has left residents of Oshodi in utter shock, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Sowe Temidayo Igbekele, for allegedly murdering and dismembering his own father, 60-year-old Babatunde Sowe Kayode, at their family home.
According to police sources who spoke exclusively to Zagazola Makama, the gruesome crime unfolded on the morning of Wednesday, April 17, at about 9:00 a.m., at their residence on Igbehinadun Street, Oshodi. The horror came to light after a female relative, Temidayo Akinola, lodged a report at the Alakara Police Division, prompting an immediate investigation.
A team of homicide detectives was swiftly deployed to the crime scene, where they were confronted with a macabre sight. The dismembered remains of the deceased were found in a pool of blood, and the house bore evidence of a violent struggle. Officers meticulously photographed the scene and evacuated the mutilated corpse to a public morgue for autopsy.
While the motive for the heinous act remains unclear, investigators believe it may be rooted in deep-seated family conflict or psychological issues. The suspect reportedly fled the scene shortly after committing the crime but was tracked down and apprehended at his hideout within Oshodi on Saturday, April 20.
The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the case, and authorities assure the public that justice will be pursued without delay.
“This is one of the most disturbing domestic homicide cases we have encountered in recent times. We are leaving no stone unturned in unraveling the motive behind this unimaginable act,” a senior police officer stated.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court after the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
