Shame in Uniform: Army Officer Nabbed While Attempting to Sell Stolen Toyota Corolla in Abuja

Renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has revealed via his official X handle a shocking development that has jolted both security and civilian circles—a serving Nigerian Army personnel has been arrested for stealing and attempting to sell a Toyota Corolla in Abuja.

According to Makama, the 33-year-old suspect, Lance Corporal Yusuf Yunnusa, attached to the 82 Battalion in Rukuba, Plateau State, was intercepted by the police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) while attempting to offload the stolen car in Kwali.

Acting on precise intelligence, security operatives launched a sting operation and apprehended Yunnusa at approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 19 at Mamu Filling Station, Lambata, in the Kwali Area Council. The vehicle in question—a Toyota Corolla LE, ash-colored, bearing registration number ABC 570 FJ—was promptly recovered during the operation.

Upon interrogation, Yunnusa admitted to stealing the car from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja on April 17, 2025, around 12:00 noon. He confessed that he had trailed the vehicle, waited for the opportunity, and drove it away undetected. His goal was to sell it swiftly in Kwali, far from the theft location, but luck ran out before the deal could be sealed.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody, where he is undergoing intensive interrogation as investigations continue into how a uniformed personnel breached military discipline and public trust.

This incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for deeper scrutiny into the conduct and accountability of military personnel, particularly those entrusted with national security. It also underscores the need for continuous collaboration between intelligence agencies and law enforcement to nip crimes in the bud—even when the perpetrators wear the nation’s uniform.

More updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
