Enugu in Crisis: APC Accuses Governor Peter Mbah’s Administration of Concealing Carnage as Killings and Kidnappings Escalate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has sounded the alarm over what it describes as an unchecked wave of bloodshed and abductions ravaging parts of the state, accusing Governor Peter Mbah’s administration of gross negligence and a deliberate cover-up of the worsening security situation.

In a strongly worded communique issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday, the APC condemned the surge of insecurity in Uzo-Uwani, Isi-Uzo, and other local government areas, with specific concern for the “deadly stretch” of the Ugwogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, now described by residents as a highway to hell due to frequent attacks by kidnappers and violent gangs.

“The Peter Mbah-led government has spectacularly failed in its most sacred duty — the protection of lives and property of citizens,” the party declared. “Rather than confront the menace head-on, the state government appears more concerned with suppressing information and sanitizing public discourse to create a false sense of normalcy.”

The APC lashed out at the state’s Command and Control Centre, accusing it of being a toothless initiative that has done little or nothing to mitigate threats beyond a 10-kilometre radius of the capital city. “The vast rural population is practically abandoned to face the terror of killer herdsmen and ruthless criminal elements with no hope in sight,” the statement lamented.

This stern warning comes on the heels of a disturbing string of abductions across Enugu State. On Friday, SaharaReporters revealed that eight persons, including a traditional priestess, were seized by gunmen in Ohebe Orba, Udenu Local Government Area. This incident closely followed the release of 15 previously kidnapped victims from Ibagwa-Agu farm settlement in Nsukka LGA on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Worse still, communities in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo LGA, and parts of Uzo-Uwani have been under siege by armed herdsmen, leaving countless families displaced. In Eha-Amufu alone, 44 farming settlements, known locally as Ndiagu, have been forcefully abandoned, pushing residents into overcrowded and impoverished neighboring communities.

Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial District, painted a grim picture: “Kidnappers and Fulani herdsmen have taken full control of the Enugu North Senatorial Zone, including Nsukka. Our people are no longer safe in their ancestral homes.”

Meanwhile, amid the chaos, the APC stakeholders praised Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, for attracting federal projects and employment to the state — a move the party believes stands in sharp contrast to the state government’s perceived indifference to grassroots suffering.

The APC has now called on the Mbah administration to act swiftly and decisively to restore security, protect vulnerable communities, and stop what they describe as a looming humanitarian catastrophe.
