Outrage in Anambra as Soludo’s Security Operative Shoots Woman Dead Amid Traffic Chaos in Nnewi

Tension has gripped Anambra State following the shocking killing of a young woman, Chiamaka Okeke, allegedly shot dead by an operative of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba.

The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the bustling Ibeto Junction in Nnewi, located in the Nnewi North Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses revealed that the Agunechemba convoy, reportedly stuck in a traffic snarl, resorted to aggressive tactics to force their way through the gridlock—firing sporadically into the air to clear the road.

However, amidst the panic and chaos that ensued, one of the security operatives allegedly pulled the trigger on 27-year-old Chiamaka, a bystander, fatally hitting her and causing instant outrage among the locals.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described the incident as “regrettable” and assured the public that the matter was being treated with utmost seriousness.

“This is following a report in the evening of yesterday, April 15, 2025, of a regrettable incident at Ibeto Junction, Nnewi, where a trigger-happy security operative shot a lady, later identified as Chiamaka Okeke, which resulted in her death,” Ikenga stated.

He further revealed that the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has personally stepped into the matter and is working closely with the Agunechemba outfit to identify and apprehend the errant officer.

“The Commissioner of Police has called for calm. An in-depth investigation has been launched, and further developments will be communicated to the public,” Ikenga added.

The killing has sparked public anger, with many residents and civil society organizations demanding justice for Chiamaka and calling for stricter oversight of local security operatives.

As investigations unfold, all eyes remain on the Soludo-led administration to ensure that justice is not only promised but delivered swiftly, in a state that has long yearned for peace and accountability.
