In a dramatic late-night operation, gallant Nigerian troops have foiled a deadly bandit raid in Mahuta Village, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State, rescuing a prominent judicial officer, Mr. Rabiu Tukur, from the clutches of his abductors.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2025, saw a group of heavily armed bandits invade the quiet village, wreaking havoc and abducting six residents, including Mr. Tukur—a 49-year-old judge of the Lower Sharia Court in Dandume.
According to security sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, the swift response of the Nigerian military forced a fierce gun battle that sent the assailants fleeing into the surrounding bushland. In the heat of the confrontation, the troops successfully rescued Mr. Tukur unharmed, a move hailed by locals as both timely and heroic.
While the judge is now safe, the fate of the remaining five abductees remains uncertain. However, military operations are being ramped up across the area, with intensified search-and-rescue missions already underway.
“The troops acted with remarkable courage and precision under fire,” said a senior security official involved in the mission. “We remain committed to rescuing every abducted person and restoring security to affected communities.”
This latest attack underscores the persistent threat posed by criminal gangs operating across Nigeria’s North-West region. Nevertheless, the military’s decisive action offers a glimmer of hope to communities long terrorized by such violent incursions.
As the search continues, security forces are urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting suspicious movements.
