In a heart-wrenching tragedy that has plunged the Nigerian Christian community into mourning, four prominent gospel ministers and 20 other travellers have perished in a fatal multiple-vehicle collision along the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road in Ogun State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in an official statement released on Monday by Ogun State Sector Commander and Public Information Officer, Florence Okupe, confirmed the catastrophic incident which claimed a total of 24 lives.
Among the victims were beloved gospel figures: Evangelist Ayodeji David, popularly known as Kekere Jesu, Evangelist Iyanu Joseph, Monjolajesu Oluwapamilerin, and Opeyemi Adesina. These ministers were en route to a gospel mission when their vehicle collided with another in what authorities described as a high-impact crash.
Initial investigations by the FRSC point to overspeeding and poor visibility as primary causes of the deadly incident, which involved several vehicles and left the scene strewn with chaos and grief.
Evangelist Kekere Jesu was especially renowned for his fiery street preaching, passionate evangelism, and vibrant social media outreach, which inspired a digital congregation of thousands. His untimely death, alongside his fellow ministers, has struck a devastating blow to the gospel music and evangelism community.
Reacting to the tragedy, Prophet Sam Olu Alo, founder of Christ Apostolic Church, Grace of Mercy Prayer Mountain International Ministry, expressed profound sorrow in a heartfelt Facebook tribute. “The kingdom has lost gallant soldiers,” he wrote. “These were men and women who gave their all to Christ. Heaven has gained, but the earth mourns.”
Across the nation, messages of condolence continue to pour in as churches, fans, and fellow ministers reflect on the impact and legacy of the departed. Vigils are already being held in several churches, with plans underway to immortalize the gospel ministers through special memorials and tributes.
As investigations continue, the FRSC has reiterated its warning to motorists on the dangers of reckless driving, especially during the rainy season when visibility is low and road conditions can quickly deteriorate.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragile nature of life—and the irreplaceable loss that ensues when caution is cast aside on Nigerian roads.
