Over 70 Bandit Camps Crushed in Taraba as Nigerian Army Strikes Hard, Eliminates Terrorists

In a bold and relentless offensive, the Nigerian Army has demolished more than 70 bandit hideouts across Taraba State, dealing a decisive blow to terrorist elements plaguing the region. During the latest clearance operation, troops neutralised three terrorists and recovered dangerous weapons, underscoring the military’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East.

The daring operation, conducted on April 5, 2025, targeted key hideouts in Achelle and Chibi, within Karim Lamido Local Government Area. It was part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Jama’a, a coordinated counter-insurgency mission aimed at dismantling the operational infrastructure of criminal syndicates in Taraba.

According to Captain Oni Olubodunde, spokesperson for the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army in Jalingo, troops from the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke launched a precise and devastating strike on the enclaves of the bandits.

“Troops neutralised three terrorists, destroyed multiple makeshift camps, and recovered an AK-47 rifle, 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles,” Olubodunde confirmed. “The sweep started in Achelle and progressed to Chibi, where the criminals attempted to flee but were swiftly intercepted and overpowered.”

He revealed that subsequent search operations in the Dutsen Zaki and Achalle axes led to the discovery and destruction of over 70 abandoned camps, signalling the collapse of several key terrorist strongholds.

“No human activity was observed in these areas, which is a testament to the impact of our previous successful operations. The terrain is being systematically cleared to ensure that no safe haven remains for these criminal elements,” he added.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, commended the gallant troops for their exceptional bravery, discipline, and professionalism during the operation. He reaffirmed the army’s resolve to rid Taraba State of insecurity.

“Our men are committed to ensuring that terrorists and bandits find no foothold in Taraba,” General Uwa stated. “We urge residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while going about their daily activities. The Nigerian Army remains on high alert to protect lives and property.”

He also called on members of the public to support the military with timely and credible intelligence, noting that effective civil-military cooperation is essential to stamping out insecurity.

With the dismantling of over 70 bandit camps, this latest operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing war against terror and banditry in Nigeria, bolstering public confidence in the nation’s security apparatus.
