A chilling tragedy has unfolded in Enugu State, where a single mother, Oluchukwu Odo, brutally murdered her twin sister and young niece before stabbing her own mother in a frenzied attack that has left the community in shock.
Oluchukwu, a daughter of the late Lawrence Odo from Umuidenyi, Aji, Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, reportedly carried out the horrific act on Wednesday morning. Witnesses say she later expressed deep remorse, though the motive behind the gruesome killings remains unclear.
According to family sources, Oluchukwu’s twin sister had traveled from her husband’s residence to visit their parental home, bringing along her young daughter. It was during this visit that the unthinkable happened.
“She attacked them with a heavy object, striking them repeatedly until they died on the spot,” a distraught family member revealed.
As if driven by an uncontrollable rage, Oluchukwu then turned on her mother, stabbing her multiple times in the chest with a kitchen knife. Despite her severe injuries, the elderly woman managed to escape, running desperately to a neighbor’s house for help.
“I was in my house when I suddenly heard someone screaming and banging on my door,” a neighbor recounted. “When I opened it, I saw her drenched in blood, gasping for help. It was a horrifying sight.”
The gruesome attack sent shockwaves through the neighborhood as residents scrambled to understand what had provoked such a violent outburst. Community members quickly alerted the Aji Neighbourhood Watch, who launched a manhunt for Oluchukwu. She was eventually tracked down and apprehended in a nearby village.
During her arrest, the suspect reportedly muttered in distress, “I don’t know what came over me,” her voice trembling with regret and confusion.
She was immediately handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ogrute, Enugu Ezike, where authorities have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the horrific incident.
The entire community has been left in deep mourning, struggling to come to terms with the brutal loss of two lives and the near-fatal attack on Oluchukwu’s mother.
“I don’t know what could have led her to commit such an act,” a grief-stricken family member said. “We are all in shock and pain. This is beyond our understanding.”
As investigations continue, many are questioning what could have triggered such a violent episode within a close-knit family, leaving an air of sorrow and unanswered questions hanging over the once-peaceful community.
