A deadly ambush in Kaduna has left one soldier dead and another injured after unidentified gunmen launched a surprise attack on two personnel of the 312 Battalion, Kalapanzi Barracks. The brutal assault occurred at Babar Saura on April 2, 2025, around 4:41 PM.
According to intelligence sources, three heavily armed assailants, wielding sophisticated weapons, opened fire on the soldiers. The attack claimed the life of Corporal James (surname withheld), while Private Ibrahim Bazalla sustained severe injuries. The assailants swiftly seized two AK-47 rifles from the soldiers before making their escape.
Emergency response teams evacuated the victims to the 44 Army Reference Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed Corporal James’ death. Private Bazalla is currently receiving treatment and remains under close observation.
In a swift counter-operation, a joint team of military personnel, police, and local vigilante groups tracked the attackers to Degel2, Kaduna. The assailants abandoned a silver Toyota Corolla at the location but continued their escape by forcefully hijacking a white Toyota Venza from a civilian, Abdullahi Mohammed of Badarawa, Kaduna.
Security forces have intensified efforts to apprehend the gunmen and recover the stolen vehicle. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could lead to the capture of the perpetrators.
The brazen attack underscores the growing security challenges in Kaduna, as armed groups continue to test the resilience of law enforcement agencies.
