A devastating lightning strike has reportedly claimed the life of a young herder and 12 of his cattle in Matuak Giwa, Bondon District, Moro’a Chiefdom, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Confirming the tragic incident on Monday, the Village Head of Matuak Giwa, Simon Ayuba, recounted how the unfortunate event unfolded. According to him, the herder had sought refuge under a tree with his livestock amid a heavy downpour when the lightning struck, killing both the herder and his 12 cows instantly.
“The herder, along with 12 cows, died on the spot. It was a tragic occurrence that has left the community in shock,” Ayuba told PUNCH.
The Ardo of Bondon District, Tanko Isiyaka, also confirmed the incident, revealing that the deceased herder hailed from Bauchi State. Expressing deep sorrow over the loss, Isiyaka extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged the community to offer prayers and support during this difficult time.
“This is a deeply saddening event, and we pray for strength and solace for the family of the deceased,” he said.
Following the incident, the victim was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites. The sudden and tragic loss has sparked discussions within the community about the unpredictable dangers posed by extreme weather conditions.
Residents of Matuak Giwa have expressed their grief and concerns, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and safety measures for herders who frequently traverse remote areas exposed to harsh environmental elements.
