Former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has once again raised concerns over what she describes as a blatant obstruction of justice by the Nigerian Senate regarding the sexual harassment allegations leveled against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Taking to her official X handle, Ezekwesili recalled a powerful quote from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan:
“This injustice shall not be sustained.”
She declared her agreement with this stance, emphasizing that societies that perpetuate injustice remain trapped in economic stagnation, deepening poverty, and glaring inequality. She insisted that Nigerians must reject any attempts to suppress Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s pursuit of justice.
Unanswered Questions on Senate’s Obstruction
Ezekwesili directly challenged the Nigerian Senate and its leadership, questioning why they continue to deny Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan her fundamental right to a fair hearing and an impartial investigation into her allegations.
She posed critical questions:
Why is Senate President Akpabio obstructing every opportunity for an impartial Senate inquiry into the matter?
Why is he evading a process that could allow him to prove his innocence?
Why are his colleagues complicit in this obstruction, violating Senate rules—the same rules they weaponized to unlawfully suspend Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan?
No Cover-Ups, No Moving On
Ezekwesili made it clear that the Senate cannot simply brush this issue under the carpet and pretend to move on without accountability. She described the situation as a massive abuse of power by Nigeria’s third-highest-ranking public official, warning that any attempt to suppress due process would only further erode public trust in the nation’s leadership.
She ended with a resolute declaration of solidarity with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, vowing that the lawmaker would not stand alone in this fight for justice.
