Edo Under Siege: Armed Men Attack National Park Security Post, Wreak Havoc Over Hunter’s Mysterious Death

By: Zagazola Makama

Edo State was thrown into turmoil as a group of armed men launched a violent rampage, targeting a security post at the Okomu National Park and destroying properties in a fiery retaliation for the death of a local hunter, Timi Jimoh.

The lifeless body of Jimoh was discovered on March 29, 2025, bearing signs of brutal violence and burns, with a single-barrel gun found nearby—an ominous indication of foul play.

Intelligence sources revealed to Zagazola Makama that the retaliatory attack unfolded on March 31, 2025, when a group of heavily armed individuals, believed to be Ijaw youths from Inikorogha, stormed the security outpost near the park. The assailants, wielding dangerous weapons, unleashed destruction upon various properties, including residential structures, mattresses, doors, windows, plantain farms, and a water storage facility.

The chaos erupted in an apparent act of vengeance, as the armed group blamed the security forces for Jimoh’s death. However, before law enforcement could respond, the attackers fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of wreckage and fear.

A police source confirmed that investigations are actively ongoing to unravel the mystery behind Jimoh’s death and to track down those responsible for the mayhem. Authorities are carefully piecing together evidence to ascertain whether the hunter’s demise was an act of violence or an unfortunate accident that spiraled into deadly retribution.

As tensions remain high in the region, law enforcement agencies have vowed to restore order and ensure that those responsible for both Jimoh’s death and the subsequent destruction face justice. Residents of the area are calling for swift intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

This tragic incident underscores the fragile security situation in certain parts of Nigeria, where unresolved conflicts can quickly escalate into full-blown violence. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether peace can be restored or if Edo State is on the brink of further unrest.
