A simmering land dispute between the Katubo and Ugwo communities in Kogi State erupted into violence on March 29, 2025, leaving one person dead and tensions running high.

The confrontation, which centered around ownership of a lucrative fish pond in the Mozu-Ette area, took a deadly turn when rival factions clashed. According to reports, the incident was swiftly brought to the attention of law enforcement by the Ohimege of Koto, prompting the rapid deployment of security personnel to quell the unrest and prevent further bloodshed.

Tragically, amidst the chaos, Mohammed Galadima, a resident of Pareke Community, was fatally shot. In accordance with Islamic customs and at the insistence of his family, an autopsy was declined, and he was laid to rest shortly after the incident.

In response to the escalating conflict, local authorities have summoned leaders from both factions to the palace of the Ohimege of Koto for a crucial peace dialogue. The meeting is aimed at fostering reconciliation and finding a lasting resolution to the contentious dispute before further violence erupts.

Residents remain on edge as tensions simmer, with many calling for government intervention to prevent a recurrence of such deadly communal conflicts. Security agencies have assured the public that they will remain vigilant, monitoring the situation closely to maintain peace in the region.
