In a high-stakes confrontation between security forces and armed bandits in Benue State, the Nigeria Police Force successfully neutralized 12 criminals and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition. However, the operation came at a cost, as an inspector of police lost his life in the line of duty.
Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development in a statement on his official X handle. He praised the gallantry of the officers involved, emphasizing the police’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
“Our officers engaged in a fierce gun duel with the armed criminals, leading to the recovery of dangerous weapons. Unfortunately, we lost an inspector of police in the process. May his soul rest in peace,” Adejobi stated.
The operation underscores the escalating security challenges in Benue State, where banditry and violent crimes have continued to threaten lives and property. The police have reiterated their resolve to clamp down on criminal elements and ensure that law-abiding citizens can live without fear.
As security agencies intensify their efforts, the tragic loss of the fallen officer serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel in the fight against insecurity. The authorities have assured the public that more measures will be put in place to prevent further attacks and apprehend any remaining suspects connected to the criminal network.
