Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilization Declares Nigerian Democracy Dead After Tinubu’s Inauguration – Datti Baba-Ahmed

The Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilization group has sparked intense political debate after posting a bold statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The movement, aligned with the Labour Party and its presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, declared that democracy and constitutional governance in Nigeria effectively ended the moment the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the presidential race and subsequently swore him into office.

Quoting Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the statement read:

“Democracy and the constitution ended the day INEC declared Bola Tinubu the winner as well as swearing in an unconstitutional government.”

This explosive remark has reignited discussions about the credibility of the 2023 general elections, with opposition voices continuing to challenge the legitimacy of Tinubu’s administration. Baba-Ahmed, a vocal critic of the current government, has consistently maintained that the election was fraught with irregularities, accusing INEC of subverting the will of the people.

Since Tinubu’s swearing-in, political tensions have remained high, with calls for electoral and judicial reforms growing louder. The Labour Party and its supporters have repeatedly accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of manipulating the electoral process and undermining democratic principles.

With this latest declaration, the Obi-Datti movement has once again thrown the political landscape into turmoil, setting the stage for further confrontations between opposition forces and the Tinubu-led government. Will this bold stance trigger renewed public discourse on Nigeria’s democracy, or will it be another statement lost in the noise of political battles?
