In a decisive move to ensure a seamless and credible electoral process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has inaugurated the Election Project Plan Committee (EPPC) as part of its early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Chaired by Prof. Rhoda H. Gumus, the committee has been tasked with developing a comprehensive strategic roadmap that will guide the electoral body in delivering a transparent, efficient, and credible election.
The inaugural meeting, held in Abuja, brought together top electoral stakeholders to deliberate on the framework for executing a hitch-free election. The committee’s responsibilities include:
Reviewing the Terms of Reference
Developing a work plan
Establishing sub-committees
Designing an Elections Project Plan (EPP) Template
Setting submission timelines for planning documents
Several National Commissioners were also present at the inauguration, including:

Speaking at the event, Prof. Gumus underscored the crucial role of early planning in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy. She emphasized that proactive preparations would enhance electoral integrity, transparency, and efficiency, urging committee members to remain diligent and committed to their duties.
With the inauguration of the EPPC, INEC is signaling its determination to build on past electoral successes, address challenges, and set new standards for Nigeria’s democratic process. The coming months will see the committee rolling out key strategies aimed at ensuring a flawless electoral experience in 2027.
