In a series of high-impact operations, troops of the 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have successfully neutralised two kidnappers, apprehended notorious gunrunners, and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Plateau and Kaduna States. These operations, conducted as part of Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, are aimed at dismantling criminal networks terrorizing the region.
On March 12, 2025, troops launched a clearance operation targeting criminal hideouts around Kuru and Turu in Jos South Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State. Acting on intelligence, they engaged a group of heavily armed kidnappers and terrorists positioned on high grounds in Kuru. The swift and decisive action of the troops led to the elimination of two criminals, who were found in possession of 18 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) and 9 rounds of 5.56×45mm ammunition.
In a related development, troops mounted snap checkpoints along the Bokkos – Bot – Mangu road in Bokkos LGA, following credible intelligence on arms smuggling activities. During the operation, troops intercepted a notorious gunrunner, identified as Mr. Sengi David (21 years old), from Kopal Village in Panyam District, Mangu LGA. A thorough search led to the recovery of one AK-47 magazine and 48 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation.
On March 11, 2025, in a meticulously planned sting operation, troops successfully arrested a wanted kidnapper and gunrunner, Mr. Blessed Paul (22 years old), at Garaje Community in Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State. Security agencies had been on his trail after he fled to Abuja to evade arrest.
To lure him out, troops posed as potential buyers of an AK-47 rifle and offered N1.5 million for the transaction. The unsuspecting suspect fell into the trap and was apprehended at the agreed meeting point. A search led to the recovery of:
One AK-47 rifle
One AK-47 magazine
Two rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
During interrogation, Mr. Paul made critical confessions that are aiding security forces in identifying and dismantling his criminal syndicate.
On March 12, 2025, troops acted swiftly on credible intelligence and launched a rescue operation at the outskirts of Josho Village in Daffo District, Bokkos LGA. Reports indicated that kidnappers were holding abducted victims in the area. Upon sighting the advancing troops, the criminals abandoned their captives and fled into the wilderness.
Troops searched the hideout and successfully rescued two female victims:
Miss Nanbam Adamu (11 years old)
Miss Dorcas Wantu
Both victims, indigenes of Mbor Village in Mushere District, Bokkos LGA, have been debriefed and reunited with their families. Meanwhile, troops are conducting follow-up operations to track down and neutralize the fleeing kidnappers.
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its unwavering commitment to eradicating criminal elements and ensuring the safety of communities.
