Wike Blasts Fubara: Calls Rivers Governor’s Letter to Assembly ‘Useless’

In yet another dramatic turn in the ongoing political battle in Rivers State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and immediate-past governor, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s letter to the State House of Assembly as “useless.”

Wike, a dominant force in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a key political player in Rivers politics, made the statement on Wednesday while speaking with journalists in Abuja. He criticized Fubara’s approach in seeking an audience with the lawmakers over the implementation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the state’s political crisis.

According to Wike, Speaker Martins Amaewhule and other legislators are not Fubara’s subordinates and should be treated with due respect. He argued that instead of writing a public letter, Fubara should have directly contacted the Speaker and arranged a meeting privately.

The remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, particularly on platform X (formerly Twitter), where users criticized Wike’s continued influence over Rivers State affairs despite his current position as FCT minister. Some commenters accused him of trying to control the state’s leadership from Abuja, arguing that his interference undermines democracy.

As tensions persist between Wike and his successor, the political landscape in Rivers remains volatile, with many awaiting Fubara’s next move.
