In a decisive blow to terrorist activities in the North West, troops of Operation Fansan Yanma have neutralized notorious bandit kingpin Yusuf Gwamna alongside several of his fighters during a fierce gun battle in the Dutsin-Ma area of Katsina State.
Reliable intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama on Monday that the operation, based on actionable intelligence, led to the swift and lethal dismantling of Gwamna’s terror network, which had long plagued Katsina and neighboring states.
Gwamna, a ruthless warlord, was a high-profile criminal linked to countless kidnappings, mass killings, and deadly raids on villages and highways. His gang was known for orchestrating ambushes on security forces, extorting ransoms, and terrorizing innocent civilians. For years, his reign of terror instilled fear in communities, forcing thousands to flee their homes.
Military sources described his elimination as a major breakthrough in the fight against banditry, weakening the operational capacity of armed groups that have destabilized the region. The troops, executing a well-coordinated offensive, overpowered Gwamna and his fighters in a battle that left no room for escape.
With this latest success, security forces have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements, intensifying clearance operations to restore lasting peace in Katsina and beyond.
Residents of Dutsin-Ma and surrounding areas have expressed relief, hailing the military’s efforts in eliminating one of the region’s most dreaded outlaws. Meanwhile, intelligence operatives are tracking remnants of his gang to ensure total eradication of the terror cell.
