In yet another wave of terror, suspected bandits, identified as Lakurawa terrorists, have launched a coordinated onslaught on five villages in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, leaving at least 10 people dead and several others battling for their lives.

Intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the affected villages include Birnin Debi, Garin Nagoro, Yar Goru, Dan Marke, and Tambo, where the armed assailants unleashed devastation late on the night of March 9, 2025.

Eyewitnesses reported that the heavily armed terrorists stormed the communities around 8:48 p.m., firing indiscriminately and setting houses ablaze in a rampage that sent villagers fleeing for their lives. Among those killed was 50-year-old Garba Maigari, while the identities of the remaining victims remain undisclosed at this time.

The attack, described as brutal and well-coordinated, saw numerous villagers suffer varying degrees of injuries. Many of the wounded were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, where they are currently receiving treatment. Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited for autopsy.

Security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Police, and local vigilantes, swiftly mobilized to the affected areas, pushing back the assailants and restoring a semblance of calm. However, residents remain on edge, fearing a possible resurgence of violence.

The latest attack underscores the persistent security challenges in Nigeria’s North-West region, where banditry and insurgency continue to wreak havoc on rural communities. As the government intensifies efforts to combat insecurity, questions linger over the effectiveness of existing countermeasures and the fate of vulnerable communities caught in the crossfire.
