In a fierce midnight showdown, troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a local security outpost in Sabon Gari, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The daring assault, which occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, targeted local vigilantes stationed near the Sambisa Forest border with Borno State, a notorious route for insurgent incursions.
According to intelligence sources, the ISWAP fighters stormed the vigilante base in an attempt to overrun it, tragically killing one security operative in the initial attack. However, their offensive was swiftly met with superior firepower from troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), 114 Battalion, who launched a relentless counteroffensive.
Facing overwhelming resistance, the terrorists were forced into a desperate retreat, abandoning their assault as the Nigerian troops unleashed heavy fire, preventing further casualties or damage.
Military sources revealed that several terrorists sustained injuries, with trails of blood marking their withdrawal routes deep into the forest. While the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, intelligence suggests that the ISWAP unit suffered significant losses in the encounter.
A senior security official confirmed that no military personnel were harmed in the exchange, adding that Operation Hadin Kai troops remain on high alert to prevent further terrorist incursions. Additional reinforcements and surveillance operations have since been deployed to fortify the area against future threats.
This latest victory underscores the unwavering resilience of Nigerian forces in the ongoing battle against insurgency in the region, ensuring that terrorists find no safe haven in Adamawa and beyond.
