Kidnapper Among the Flock: Adamawa Police Arrest Church Member for Abducting Two Reverends

In a major breakthrough, the Adamawa State Police Command has successfully rescued two kidnapped Catholic reverend fathers and apprehended their abductor—a 34-year-old church member—without a ransom being paid.

Acting on intelligence, the police carried out a coordinated rescue operation at a notorious criminal hideout in Gwaida Malam village, a remote area straddling Numan and Demsa Local Government Areas (LGAs). The operation, which commenced on 21st February 2025, targeted multiple criminal dens across the state, leading to the arrest of Tahamado Jonathan Demian, a member of the victims’ own church.

Demian was found responsible for the kidnapping of Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew David Dusami, serving in the Catholic Dioceses of Yola and Jalingo, respectively. The operation resulted in the successful rescue of both clergymen, who were found unharmed and are currently receiving medical attention.

The suspect, now in police custody, is undergoing thorough interrogation to unravel any possible accomplices and motives behind the shocking crime.

Recovered Items

During the operation, the police recovered:
✅ One locally fabricated assault rifle
✅ Multiple mobile phones and SIM cards

Commissioner’s Statement

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), commended the swift action of his officers, emphasizing that the command remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property. He also expressed gratitude to the government, sister security agencies, and the public for their continued support.

He urged residents to maintain their cooperation with security forces, assuring that all criminals will be brought to justice. The command also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and security across Adamawa State and beyond.
