A storm of controversy has erupted around Oba Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju, the Abepa of Joga Orile in Yewa North, Ogun State, as his former queen, Olayinka, levels damning allegations of fraud, physical assault, and the use of charms to manipulate women.
In a series of explosive audio recordings obtained by SaharaReporters, Olayinka detailed how the traditional ruler allegedly coerced her into financing his extravagant lifestyle, using psychological manipulation and mystical threats. She described how he persistently pressured her for money, often donning a cap before making his demands. If she refused, he would retreat to his chambers, only to return with more requests.
Olayinka recounted how Oba Adekeye regularly threw lavish parties on credit and then demanded money from her to cover the costs. She alleged that he employed similar tactics on another woman, identified as Christy Oluwabunmi, and even attempted to do the same on her 40th birthday.
“He said he wanted to celebrate my birthday, and I agreed. But then he asked me for money to fund the celebration. I asked, ‘Why should I give you money to celebrate my own birthday?’ That was when our conflict escalated,” she revealed.
Before meeting the monarch, Olayinka claimed she owned two houses and had intended to sell one to invest in rental properties. However, she alleged that the king diverted her financial plans by introducing her to luxury Range Rover models, raising suspicions about his true intentions.
She further claimed to have funded his international travels, as he had no known business or legitimate source of income.
The former queen also accused Oba Adekeye of using charms to control people, an allegation that led to a violent confrontation between them.
“The day I questioned him about using charms was the day he beat me,” she alleged, recounting a chilling incident involving a native doctor known as “Abore.”
According to Olayinka, Abore had warned that any ritual (ebo) conducted by the king could result in his demise due to the sheer number of women he had deceived. The native doctor reportedly declared that only Olayinka, described as “a special child, untouchable by harm,” could intervene on his behalf.
“I performed the sacrifice for him, yet he later branded me a witch. After all I did for him, he turned against me,” she lamented.
Olayinka further cast doubts on the legitimacy of Oba Adekeye’s claim to the throne, stating that he was not from a royal family.
“His mother comes from a royal lineage, but not in Joga. Gbenga Daniel made him king because they were friends. His family has no real Oba heritage. Anyone hoping their child would inherit the throne should forget it. The people of Joga do not like him,” she claimed.
She also linked the embattled monarch to a protracted land dispute with another traditional ruler in Joga Orile, alleging that he had been accused of land grabbing.
UK-Based Woman Alleges Fraud and Ritualistic Threats
Adding to the weight of accusations, a UK-based Nigerian woman, Christy Oluwabunmi, previously accused Oba Adekeye of orchestrating a fraudulent marriage scheme to defraud her of millions.
In petitions submitted to several high-profile Nigerian authorities, including the EFCC, the Inspector General of Police, and the DSS, she recounted how the monarch approached her in 2022, professing love and promising financial stability.
“He pretended to be in love with me, vowing to marry me and support my business. Eventually, I was manipulated into transferring over N53 million via electronic transactions, N12 million in cash, mobile phones worth N10.8 million, and gold valued at N120 million,” she wrote, attaching receipts as evidence.
Shockingly, she also alleged that the king orchestrated a ritualistic scheme in Ekiti State, where she was told she needed to sacrifice an eye or a leg to attain financial prosperity. Realizing she was being deceived, she resisted but found herself financially ruined and abandoned.
She further accused the monarch of forging a divorce certificate to dissolve her previous marriage so he could marry her—an act she later discovered was part of a broader pattern of deception involving multiple women.
“He has converted my hard-earned money, gold, phones, and valuables to his personal use unlawfully. All efforts to retrieve them have proved abortive. Instead, he threatens to kill me, claiming nothing will happen because he is a king,” she alleged.
Efforts by SaharaReporters to reach Oba Adekeye for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.
As the allegations against the Ogun monarch continue to pile up, pressure is mounting for the authorities to investigate the claims of fraud, assault, and mystical manipulation leveled against him. With multiple alleged victims stepping forward, the question remains: will justice be served, or will the king’s influence shield him from accountability?
