In a shocking display of lawlessness, three individuals have been arrested for allegedly launching a violent machete attack on police officers in the Byazhin area of Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The assault left two officers severely injured, with one requiring advanced medical attention.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Daniel Effiong Thompson, 23; Jude Danlami Jacob Yohana; and Gabriel Ezekiel, the son of the Sarkin Byazhin, who is believed to have orchestrated the attack.
According to police sources who confirmed the incident on Thursday, the brutal assault took place on Wednesday when officers responded to a distress call from a trader whose wares had been vandalized by hoodlums. However, upon arriving at the scene, the patrol team walked into a deadly ambush, as the assailants—armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons—launched a frenzied attack on them.
The attack left Inspector Wabi Elisha with a deep machete wound to the head, while Inspector Sunday Ujah suffered multiple injuries to his face and shoulder. The injured officers were immediately rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where Inspector Ujah was treated and later discharged. However, due to the severity of his wounds, Inspector Elisha was transferred to the National Hospital for specialized medical care.
In the wake of the attack, law enforcement swiftly apprehended the suspected assailants, and the case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive probe.
The brazen attack on uniformed officers has sparked outrage, with security experts warning that such impunity, if unchecked, could embolden criminal elements in the capital city. Meanwhile, residents of the area have called on the FCT Police Command to intensify security measures and ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
As investigations continue, authorities have vowed to crack down on criminal gangs terrorizing communities, reiterating their commitment to maintaining law and order in the nation’s capital.
