Shehu Sani Exposes Senate Secrets: Whistleblowers Beware!

Renowned human rights activist and former senator, Shehu Sani, has once again stirred the political landscape with a bold revelation about the inner workings of Nigeria’s Senate.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sani recalled a harrowing experience during his tenure as a senator, when he publicly disclosed the salaries and allowances of his colleagues. The move, he revealed, almost led to his suspension for six months, but he was saved at the last minute by Divine Intervention and the intervention of then Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

Sani’s statement carries a chilling warning for those who dare to challenge the establishment:

“Just know that if you are there and you blow the whistle too loudly, you will be ‘on your own.’ No senator will bring his head or neck to support you.”

His remarks underscore the perils of exposing the excesses within Nigeria’s political elite, reinforcing long-held concerns about secrecy, corruption, and self-preservation in the corridors of power.

This latest revelation is a stark reminder of the institutional resistance to transparency, where even those within the system face severe repercussions for daring to challenge the status quo. Will future lawmakers take heed, or will the cycle of silence continue?
