Cherubim & Seraphim Church Disowns Bishop Caught in ‘Tongue-to-Tongue’ Ordination, Condemns Idolatrous Acts

The Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria has strongly distanced itself from a viral video showing a so-called bishop conducting a shocking “tongue-to-tongue” anointing ceremony. The church, in a scathing statement on Wednesday, described the act as “horrific, despicable, and utterly unchristian,” reaffirming its strict adherence to biblical doctrines and rejecting any association with the individuals involved.

The controversy erupted after Sahara Reporters took to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle to share the video, which sparked outrage across religious circles. The footage, which has since gained widespread attention, features a self-proclaimed bishop engaging in an unconventional ordination rite, an act the church says is not only misleading but blasphemous.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church clarified that the individuals in the video are not affiliated with the church in any way. It also condemned the unauthorized use of its religious symbols and the mention of its revered founder, St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase, in the controversial ritual.

“Ordinarily, we would not dignify such incidents with a response, but we must set the record straight,” the statement read.

Following an internal investigation, the church identified the key figure in the video as Alfred Oluwasegun Okikiola Ogunnusi, who refers to himself as “His Eminence Baba Aladura LAHOJAH.” The bizarre ceremony reportedly took place in Ogijo, Ogun State, while the man receiving the so-called anointing, known as Benjamin (also called Ajigbo), operates a makeshift ‘church’ in Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The church took particular issue with Ogunnusi’s attempt to justify his actions using Genesis 48:10, stressing that his interpretation of the passage was flawed, deceptive, and completely out of context. It insisted that anointing in the C&S tradition is performed using olive oil—not through any other bizarre or unscriptural practice.

Further distancing itself from the scandal, the church emphasized that not everyone who wears a white garment is a true member of the C&S Church and warned the public against assuming affiliations based solely on appearance.

“We strongly abhor idolatrous practices and reject their satanic and unholy acts in their entirety,” the statement declared.

Additionally, the church disowned another individual seen in the video wearing a robe with the official C&S logo, stressing that he was neither a recognized member nor authorized to wear the emblem.

Church Calls for Public Condemnation, Vows to Uphold Doctrinal Purity

Calling on Nigerians to reject such false prophets and misleading religious theatrics, the Cherubim & Seraphim Church urged the public to disregard the video and its gross misrepresentation of Christian practices.

“These impostors are attempting to exploit the name of St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase for personal gain, but invoking his name does not grant legitimacy or membership in our church,” the statement concluded.

Reaffirming its commitment to upholding its spiritual traditions and maintaining doctrinal purity, the church vowed to continue educating the public on its core beliefs and ensuring that such fraudulent religious acts are exposed and condemned.
