The embers of terror once again engulfed Buni Yadi, the hometown of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, as Boko Haram insurgents launched a brutal midnight attack, leaving residents in a state of fear and despair.
In a chilling assault that unfolded around 1 a.m. on Monday, the terrorists stormed the home of a police inspector, Malam Jibrin, in the Shuwari Baban Layi area of Gujba Local Government Area. The attackers, enraged by Jibrin’s daring escape over his compound’s fence, unleashed their fury on his two sons, aged 25 and 27, slaughtering them in cold blood before setting their bodies and the house ablaze.
“The gunmen operated freely for nearly an hour, from 1 a.m. to 1:54 a.m., without any resistance. The entire town is gripped by panic,” a local source revealed.
Boko Haram militants are believed to be launching their attacks from the notorious Buk and Talala forests, approximately 30 kilometers east of Buni Yadi. A vigilante familiar with the area confirmed that these locations serve as operational bases for the terrorists.
“As it stands, no one dares venture towards the Damboa axis. Even the military is aware of their presence there,” the vigilante said. “This is the same area where they ambushed the military last month, killing an army commandant along with several soldiers and vigilantes.”
The attack has intensified fears among residents, many of whom feel abandoned in the face of escalating violence.
“People can no longer sleep with their eyes closed,” said Muhammad Garba, a distressed resident. “The roads are dangerous, the town is under siege—nowhere is safe.”
With security deteriorating rapidly, locals are calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent action before the insurgents tighten their grip on the region.
