CAN Rejects Calls for Senate President Akpabio’s Resignation Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has firmly dismissed demands for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio following allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In a statement shared on its official X handle, Nigerian Stories reported that CAN refused to align with the calls for Akpabio’s resignation, emphasizing the need for due process and fair hearing before any judgment is passed.

The allegations, which have stirred controversy within Nigeria’s political landscape, have prompted calls from various quarters for Akpabio to step aside. However, CAN has taken a different stance, cautioning against what it described as a “trial by public opinion” and urging Nigerians to allow the legal process to take its course.

While Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has insisted on the credibility of her claims, Akpabio’s supporters have dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. Meanwhile, the public awaits further developments, as the case continues to generate heated debates.

As the controversy unfolds, the question remains: Will this scandal dent Akpabio’s leadership, or will he weather the storm and maintain his position as Senate President?
