Tragedy on Campus: KNUST Final-Year Student Found Dead Near University in Suspected Robbery

Shock and grief have gripped the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana following the tragic death of Joana Yabani, a brilliant final-year Biological Sciences student. Her lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of Thursday morning near the university’s Centre for Disability, in what is suspected to be a brutal robbery attack.

According to reports from EDHUB and Sahara Reporters, Joana had been returning from a night study session—an increasingly common routine among students preparing for their mid-semester exams—when she met her tragic fate.

Eyewitness accounts suggest she may have been ambushed by assailants while making her way back to her residence.

“It is heartbreaking. She was just preparing for her exams,” a distraught fellow student lamented.

Joana was not just an ordinary student; she was an academic star, celebrated for her intellect and dedication. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was awarded the 2024 Writer of the Year by the KNUST Biological Sciences Students’ Association (BIOSA).

Her sudden demise has sparked widespread fear and outrage within the university community. Students are demanding urgent action from authorities to address the growing security concerns on and around campus.

“This is terrifying. We need better security, especially at night,” one student voiced, echoing the sentiments of many.

So far, the university administration has remained silent, offering no official statement on the incident. However, the pressure is mounting for immediate intervention.

“We cannot continue living in fear. Something must be done,” a student leader declared, calling for reinforced campus security measures to prevent future tragedies.

As investigations continue, the KNUST community mourns a promising young scholar whose life was cut short too soon.
