NAF Launches Probe Into Deadly Shooting by Reckless Officer in Kaduna

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation into a shocking shooting incident involving its personnel in Unguwan Gangare, Barakallahu, Kaduna State, that left one person dead and several others injured.

The tragic event, which unfolded late Wednesday night around 10 p.m., has sent shockwaves through the Barakallahu community, located near the Air Force Institute of Technology. According to multiple reports, a NAF officer stormed the area, firing indiscriminately and causing chaos. Two other residents sustained injuries in the attack.

Disturbing footage of the incident, now widely circulated on social media, captured a military-style vehicle adorned with the NAF logo pulling into the community. Moments later, five armed officers, apart from the driver, emerged from the vehicle, escalating tensions before shots rang out.

In response to the public outcry, the NAF released an official statement through its spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, expressing deep regret over the loss of life and assuring Nigerians of a thorough and transparent investigation.

“We deeply regret the loss of a life and have reached out to the deceased’s family to extend our condolences. A full investigation is already underway, and we assure the public that justice will be served,” Akinboyewa stated.

Reiterating the NAF’s commitment to professionalism and discipline, he added:

“The Nigerian Air Force remains a highly disciplined force dedicated to upholding the highest standards of conduct in all engagements. Any personnel found culpable will face the full weight of the law in line with our commitment to justice and accountability.”

As the investigation intensifies, the NAF has urged residents to remain calm while the authorities work to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

This latest development raises renewed concerns about military-civilian relations and the use of force by security personnel in Nigeria. Many are now demanding swift and decisive action to ensure that such incidents do not repeat themselves.
