TERROR ON THE HIGHWAY: NYSC Member Kidnapped on Benin-Ibadan Route as Abductors Demand N20 Million Ransom

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Lawal Rofiat Kofoworola, has been kidnapped while traveling from Benin, Edo State, to Ibadan, Oyo State, to resume at her Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) in Ogbomoso.

The terrifying incident occurred on Tuesday when she boarded an Ore-bound commercial bus, only to fall into the hands of kidnappers.

Shortly after her abduction, the kidnappers contacted her family, demanding a ransom of N20 million for her release. However, her parents, described as financially struggling, are unable to meet the hefty demand, leaving them desperate and distraught.

A close friend of the victim, identified as Agbakwara, took to social media to raise the alarm, pleading for urgent intervention.

> “We have been close friends since our 100 level. I haven’t been myself since this happened. She has struggled all her life, supporting herself through university by working at Dufil Company in Benin. Now, kidnappers are demanding N20 million, and we don’t know what to do. Her parents are less privileged and can’t afford this,” he wrote.

According to him, a report has been filed at the NYSC Secretariat in Ibadan, along with Kofoworola’s call-up number, but no official response has been received so far.

“We are exhausted and desperate for help! Please, Nigerians, I need your support. If there is any way you can assist—spreading this message, reaching the authorities, or offering any help at all—please do,” he pleaded.

When SaharaReporters contacted Caroline Embu, the spokesperson for the NYSC, she responded briefly:

> “Please can you just send the details to me so that I can confirm?”

Her response has sparked concerns over the urgency of the matter and whether the NYSC will take swift action to intervene.

The abduction of Lawal Rofiat Kofoworola adds to the growing list of kidnappings plaguing Nigerian highways, where innocent travelers fall victim to criminals. This latest incident has once again highlighted the alarming state of insecurity and the urgent need for government intervention to protect citizens.

With time running out and her life hanging in the balance, Nigerians are calling on security agencies to act swiftly and rescue the young corps member before it is too late.
