Suspected bandits have unleashed terror in Zamfara State, killing two children and two adults while abducting multiple residents in a series of coordinated attacks spanning Gusau and Bukuyyum local government areas.
The violent raids, which occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning, February 24, 2025, have further deepened the security crisis in the state.
According to counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incidents on his official X handle, the armed assailants first struck Shemori Village in Mada District at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, where they forcefully whisked away six women under the cover of darkness.
Hours later, in the early hours of Monday morning, another set of gunmen stormed Kairu Community in Zugu District, executing two residents in cold blood and kidnapping an unspecified number of people.
The violence escalated further in Mada Town, Gusau LGA, where the bandits launched another brutal assault on Hayin Bajumi. In a horrifying act of arson, the attackers set ablaze the home of one Aliyu Usman, leading to the tragic deaths of his two young sons—five-year-old Ishaq Aliyu and two-year-old Jafar Aliyu—who perished in the inferno.
As the rampage continued, the assailants abducted Usman’s neighbor’s wife along with her one-year-old baby before disappearing into the night, leaving a trail of devastation and anguish.
This latest onslaught has once again underscored the escalating insecurity in Zamfara, where bandits continue to operate with brazen impunity. Residents are calling on security forces to intensify efforts to curb the menace and bring the perpetrators to justice.
