Royal Deception: Ogun Monarch Accused of N65M Marriage Scam, N120M Gold Fraud

In a shocking revelation, a UK-based Nigerian woman, Christy Oluwabunmi, has accused Oba Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju, the Abepa of Joga Orile, Yewa North, Ogun State, of orchestrating a grand marriage scam that allegedly cost her over N65 million in cash and valuables, including N120 million worth of gold.

Oluwabunmi alleges that the monarch exploited her trust, manipulated her into a fraudulent marriage, and ultimately left her financially and emotionally devastated. She claims he went as far as forging a divorce certificate to sever her previous marriage, paving the way for their union under false pretenses.

Speaking to Sahara Reporters, Oluwabunmi detailed how the monarch wooed her with promises of marriage, financial support, and stability, only to later strip her of her wealth.

> “Kabiyesi went to forge a divorce certificate for me to leave my husband and also took me to the court registry to formalise my marriage with him,” she lamented.

It was only later that she discovered this was allegedly his modus operandi, with at least five other women falling victim to similar schemes.

From Love to Ruin: The Alleged Scam

In petitions submitted to top government officials and security agencies, including the governors of Osun and Ondo States, the EFCC, the Inspector General of Police, the DSS, and the Ogun Council of Obas, Oluwabunmi chronicled how the monarch duped her out of massive sums through deceitful means.

She provided receipts showing that she had:

Transferred N53 million via electronic transactions

Given him N12 million in cash

Provided mobile phones worth N10.8 million

Lost gold valued at N120 million

> “He pretended to love me, vowing to marry me and support my business. But in the end, I was manipulated and left with nothing.”

Beyond financial loss, Oluwabunmi alleges that the traditional ruler attempted to lure her into a bizarre ritual in Ekiti State, where she was told she would need to sacrifice an eye or a leg to achieve financial prosperity.

Realizing she was being deceived, she refused—only to find herself financially ruined and abandoned.

When she later demanded a refund of her money and valuables, the monarch allegedly threatened her life, boasting of his influence, ties to cultists, and political connections.

> “He told me nothing would happen to him because he is a king. He has stolen my hard-earned money, gold, and valuables, and all efforts to retrieve them have failed.”

According to her, this is not an isolated case. She claims that at least three other women have suffered similar fates at the hands of the monarch, with all of them allegedly threatened into silence.

> “He has used the same criminal style to deceive and defraud multiple women, and anyone who dares to speak out is threatened with death.”

As of the time of filing this report, Oba Adekeye Adeyemi has not responded to the allegations. Calls to his phone have gone unanswered, and he has yet to react to messages seeking his side of the story.

With the weight of these accusations and official petitions already in motion, the case could spark a major investigation into royal misconduct, fraud, and abuse of power in Nigeria’s traditional leadership circles.
