In a shocking incident that has left the Ijedodo community in Lagos State in mourning, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her 23-year-old boyfriend, Gbolahan Adebayo. The tragic event unfolded late on Friday, February 21, but only came to light in the early hours of Sunday, February 23, when Adebayo’s desperate cries for help alerted neighbors.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, a concerned neighbor rushed to Adebayo’s apartment around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday and discovered the young woman unconscious on the bed, bearing visible signs of severe physical assault. The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and provided details of the chilling incident.
“At about 9:00 a.m. on February 23, a neighbor reported at the Isheri Osun Police Division that on the night of February 21, at around 8:00 p.m., he witnessed Gbolahan Adebayo physically assaulting his girlfriend in his apartment for reasons yet to be determined,” the police statement revealed.
Tragically, just hours later, Adebayo was heard frantically calling for help. When neighbors arrived at his home, they found the woman unresponsive, her body marked with injuries. She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ijegun, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Following the report, a team of detectives visited both the crime scene and the hospital. The victim’s body was inspected and documented before being transported to the Yaba mortuary for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, Adebayo was taken into custody as police launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death.
This tragic incident has reignited discussions on domestic violence and the urgent need for stronger preventive measures. Authorities urge individuals experiencing or witnessing domestic abuse to speak up and seek help before situations escalate into irreversible tragedies.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served.
