Lagos Police Nab Suspect for Brutal Stabbing of Uber Driver, Car Theft

In a swift operation, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a suspect accused of viciously stabbing an Uber driver and making away with his vehicle.

The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Monday, revealing that the horrifying incident took place on Saturday at approximately 7:34 p.m. at Ile-Zik, Agege.

According to reports, the Uber driver had picked up the suspect at Nitel, along Old Abeokuta Motor Road, Agege, with a destination set for Marriott Hotel, GRA, Ikeja. However, the journey took a violent turn when the suspect, upon reaching Ile-Zik, suddenly brandished a sharp knife and launched a brutal attack, stabbing the driver multiple times before speeding off with his Toyota Camry.

“The driver managed to report the incident at Isokoko Police Division, and our officers swiftly launched a manhunt. Using advanced tracking technology, we traced the stolen vehicle to Oshodi, where the suspect was intercepted,” Hundeyin stated.

The suspect was promptly arrested, and the stolen vehicle was successfully recovered. Meanwhile, the injured driver was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Hundeyin assured that a full-scale investigation is underway to determine whether the suspect had accomplices or a history of similar crimes.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of ride-hailing drivers, prompting calls for increased security measures and stricter passenger verification processes.
