IGP Egbetokun Orders Police Commands to Slash Crime Rate by 50% in 2025

In a bold move to strengthen national security, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has tasked all police commands across Nigeria with implementing a comprehensive strategy to slash crime rates by 50% in 2025.

The directive was issued at the opening of the 5th Annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) in Abeokuta, Ogun State. This year’s theme, “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity Through Inclusive Policing,” aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s security agenda and underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to fostering a professional, intelligence-driven policing system capable of tackling emerging threats.

IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the NPF’s intensified operations, coupled with strengthened collaboration with the military and other security agencies, are already yielding significant results in the battle against banditry, kidnapping, and organized crime. He called for a renewed sense of urgency among police commands to sustain this momentum and drastically cut crime rates nationwide.

Speaking at the event, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced his administration’s plan to equip the police with electric motorcycles to enhance mobility and response time in combating crime. Additionally, the state is partnering with a French technology firm to deploy advanced drones capable of detecting criminal activities from an altitude of 8,000 feet.

The high-profile gathering underscores a critical shift towards modernized and intelligence-driven policing in Nigeria, as the government and security agencies intensify efforts to secure lives and property.

With the IGP’s ambitious mandate and increasing technological advancements, 2025 could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s fight against crime—but the real test lies in the implementation and sustained execution of these initiatives.
