In a chilling display of lawlessness, suspected kidnappers have abducted a 60-year-old woman, Talatu Ali, from the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State. The brazen incident, which occurred in broad daylight while the victim awaited medical consultation, has sent shockwaves through the community.
Sources familiar with the case told Zagazola Makama that Talatu Ali had been brought to the hospital by her son, Nasiru Aliyu, and her cousin, Aliyu Garba, both residents of Yar Gaya Village in Dawakin Kudu LGA. They arrived at the hospital at approximately 8:30 a.m. on February 19, 2025, hoping to secure medical attention for the elderly woman.
However, as they waited in line for consultation, their worst nightmare unfolded—Talatu suddenly vanished without a trace. Panic-stricken, her relatives frantically searched the hospital grounds, questioning staff and patients, but their efforts yielded no clues. Fearing the worst, they promptly reported the incident to the Dawanau Divisional Police Headquarters.
Just two days later, on February 21, 2025, at around 7:00 a.m., Aliyu Garba’s phone rang. On the other end was an unknown caller who delivered a chilling message—Talatu Ali was in their custody. Though no immediate ransom demand was made, the cryptic call left the family in distress, confirming their fears that she had fallen into the hands of kidnappers.
Security analysts believe that the abduction was not random but rather a calculated operation. The kidnappers may have intentionally exploited the hospital’s security lapses, knowing that its focus on medical care made it a vulnerable target.
The Kano State Police Command has since confirmed the abduction, stating that investigations are underway to track down the perpetrators and ensure Talatu Ali’s safe return. However, the incident has reignited concerns about the rising cases of kidnappings in the region, particularly in places once considered safe havens.
As the search intensifies, the victim’s family remains gripped with fear, hoping for a miracle while awaiting further communication from the abductors. The daring nature of this crime serves as yet another grim reminder of the growing insecurity in Nigeria, where even hospitals are no longer safe from the scourge of kidnappers.
