In a brazen attack that has sent shockwaves through Adamawa State, gunmen have kidnapped two Catholic priests from their residence in the early hours of Saturday, Pioneer News has learned.
The abducted clergymen, identified as Rev. Fathers Matthew David Dusami and Abraham Samman, were taken from a convent in Gweda Mallam, located in Numan Local Government Area of the state. Reports indicate that both priests serve within the Catholic Dioceses of Adamawa and Taraba.
The circumstances surrounding the abduction remain unclear, but sources suggest that the assailants stormed the residence under the cover of darkness, forcibly taking the priests to an unknown destination. The incident has sparked panic among residents and the Christian community, with fears growing over the safety of the clerics.
At the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Adamawa State Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, for confirmation proved abortive, as he was not answering calls. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
This latest abduction adds to the growing wave of insecurity in Nigeria, where religious leaders have increasingly become targets of kidnappings. The Catholic Church and concerned citizens are calling on security agencies to intensify efforts in rescuing the kidnapped priests and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
