Osun Council Elections: Atiku Rallies Support for Adeleke, Urges Police to Uphold Security

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called for a peaceful and orderly local government election in Osun State, emphasizing its crucial role in democracy.

In a statement on Saturday, Atiku praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for proceeding with the polls and urged security agencies to act with integrity.

“As Osun residents head to the polls, I appeal for a hitch-free process. Local council elections are the heartbeat of democracy, directly impacting citizens’ lives. I commend Governor Adeleke and urge security agencies to uphold their duty with the highest responsibility,” Atiku stated.

His remarks come amid rising tensions following recent violent clashes, with Atiku accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of inciting unrest to maintain control. He warned that the APC’s reliance on brute force threatens Nigeria’s democracy.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force, citing security concerns, has advised the Osun government to suspend the elections. Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that intelligence reports indicate potential violence and legal complexities, urging authorities to reconsider the polls.

With the elections underway, Atiku’s call for peace and accountability remains crucial in ensuring a credible and secure process.
