Borno Police Foil Midnight Kidnapping as Victim Fights Back, Three Suspects Arrested

In a dramatic turn of events, the Borno State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Sabon Gari Lassa, Askira Uba Local Government Area, after the intended victim fought back, forcing the assailants to flee.

According to intelligence sources, three suspects—Salisu Hussain, Buhari Hussaini, and Umar Bello, all residents of Gajali Village in Askira Uba LGA—have been arrested in connection with the foiled abduction.

Counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, revealed via his official X handle on Friday that the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 20. Armed with weapons, four assailants stormed the residence of Mohammed Abubakar, intending to abduct him. However, in a shocking display of courage, Abubakar fought back with a cutlass, forcing the kidnappers to flee in disarray.

At about 6:00 a.m., Abubakar alerted security operatives, prompting a rapid response from a joint team of police officers and local vigilantes. The operatives tracked the suspects’ footprints to a nearby hideout, leading to the swift arrest of three of the culprits. A locally made pistol was recovered from them, while efforts are underway to apprehend the fourth suspect who remains at large.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine if the arrested individuals are linked to other criminal activities in the region. Meanwhile, the Borno State Police Command has commended the bravery of the victim and the swift response of security operatives. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

This latest success underscores the ongoing efforts of security forces to curb crime and ensure the safety of citizens in Borno State.
