Katsina Hisbah Bans Nightclubs, Orders Strict Enforcement to Uphold Moral Values

In a sweeping move to reinforce Islamic principles and societal morality, the Katsina State Hisbah Board has banned all nightclub activities across the state. The decision, announced on its official X handle by Sahara Reporters, underscores Hisbah’s commitment to curbing what it describes as immoral practices and security threats associated with nightlife.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commander-General of the board, Dr. Aminu Usman (Abu Ammar), emphasized the need to uphold moral values, urging nightclub owners to shut down their establishments immediately. Hisbah warned that violators would face severe consequences.

“Security agencies have been instructed to ensure full compliance with the order,” Usman stated. “We are committed to building a morally upright society and ensuring peace and security in Katsina State.”

The directive has been communicated to all relevant security agencies, including the State Commissioner for Internal Security, to guarantee strict enforcement.

“This move aligns with Hisbah’s broader mission to ensure residents adhere to religious and moral standards in their daily lives,” Usman added.

Hisbah, a religious police force operating in several northern Nigerian states under Sharia law, has a history of enforcing moral regulations, including bans on alcohol, music concerts, and certain forms of social gatherings. While the board insists that its actions promote public order and decency, the decision has sparked debates over personal freedoms and the role of religious policing in a secular democracy.

As the crackdown begins, questions linger on how this policy will affect businesses, nightlife culture, and the broader implications for entertainment and tourism in the state.
