Former U.S. President Donald Trump has harshly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling him a “modestly successful comedian” who has “manipulated” the United States into spending a staggering $350 billion on a war with Russia that Trump claims was “unwinnable” and “unnecessary.”
In a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday, Trump expressed disbelief at the U.S. financial commitment to the conflict, accusing Zelenskyy of deceiving the nation into a costly war. “Think about it: a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 billion to go into a war that couldn’t be won, a war that never had to start. But one that, without the U.S. and ‘TRUMP,’ he’ll never be able to settle,” Trump said.
The former president also took aim at his successor, Joe Biden, for what he characterized as a failure to ensure fair financial contributions from European allies. “The United States has spent $200 billion more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States gets nothing back. Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization? This war is far more important to Europe than it is to us, with our beautiful, big ocean separating us,” Trump remarked, highlighting the disparity in war spending between the U.S. and Europe.
Trump further accused Zelenskyy of gross financial mismanagement, referencing Zelenskyy’s admission that half of the funds sent to Ukraine were “missing.” He also criticized Zelenskyy for not holding elections, pointing to his low standing in Ukrainian polls, and accused him of effectively “playing” President Biden. “He refuses to have elections, is very low in the polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle,’” Trump added.
US president questioned the legitimacy of Ukraine’s leadership, describing Zelenskyy as a “dictator without elections.” He warned that if Zelenskyy does not act quickly, he may lose control of the country. “A dictator without elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he’s not going to have a country left,” Trump asserted.

Trump went on to claim that under his administration, progress was being made toward negotiations to end the war, positioning himself as the only leader capable of securing peace. “In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia, something only ‘TRUMP,’ and the Trump Administration, can do. Biden never tried, Europe has failed, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the ‘gravy train’ going,” he declared.
Despite his criticisms of Zelenskyy’s leadership, Trump expressed continued support for Ukraine, arguing that the country’s current leadership had failed its people. “I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job. His country is shattered, and millions have unnecessarily died. And so it continues,” Trump concluded.
Trump’s remarks on Zelenskyy and the ongoing war in Ukraine reflect his continued controversial stance on U.S. foreign policy and its involvement in global conflicts.
