Renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has revealed a major security breakthrough by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Zamfara State. Taking to his official X handle, Makama announced that NDLEA operatives had successfully intercepted and arrested individuals attempting to smuggle live ammunition to bandits in the state.
The dramatic operation unfolded in Tsafe Local Government Area, where vigilant NDLEA officers, acting on intelligence, intercepted a suspicious vehicle attempting to evade security checks. Upon a thorough search, the operatives discovered a cache of live ammunition cleverly concealed within the vehicle—an alarming indication of ongoing arms trafficking to criminal elements operating in the region.

A security official familiar with the case confirmed the arrests, stating: “The suspects were found in possession of a significant quantity of ammunition, which they intended to deliver to armed groups.”
This latest bust underscores the NDLEA’s expanding role beyond drug enforcement, as the agency intensifies efforts to dismantle the supply chains sustaining criminal networks. The interception comes amid heightened security measures in Zamfara, a state long plagued by banditry, kidnappings, and insurgent activities.
Authorities have launched further investigations to uncover the masterminds behind the arms smuggling operation, with expectations that the arrests could lead to more high-profile crackdowns on illicit arms dealers.
This development sends a strong warning to criminal syndicates and their enablers: security forces are closing in, and the era of unchecked arms trafficking is coming to an end.
